A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STONE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998-1999 SEASON.
WHEREAS, the Stone High School Girls Basketball Team completed the 1998-1999 season with an outstanding 32-4 record which culminated in winning the State 4-A Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tomcats competed well in tournament play, winning the Perry Central Invitational Tournament, the Stone High Tournament, the Bay High Tournament, the Division 8-4A Championship, and the State 4-A Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tomcats were ably coached by Head Coach Sam Smith and Assistant Coach Peter Georgian, who fine tuned the athletic skills and team effort of each player; and
WHEREAS, the following outstanding players on the Lady Tomcats team received honor designations: Erica Thompson, All-State, All-District and All-South State; Monique Nelson, All-State, All-District and All-South State; Amy Shipee, All-State, All-District Honorable Mention; Adrienne Vanderbilt, All-District Honorable Mention; and Candace Rhodes, All-District Honorable Mention; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this fine group of student athletes whose school has a longstanding tradition of championship tournament performance, and who continue to bring honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Stone High School Girls Basketball Team for their outstanding 1998-1999 season and for winning the State 4-A Tournament Championship, and wish them continued success in their athletic, academic and career endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Smith and to the Principal of Stone High School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
